全国五大书院之一，系北宋著名政治家参知政事范仲淹在邓州任知州时，为培养造就人才而创建。庆历六年（1046），范公应挚友滕子京之邀，在花洲书院挥毫写下了脍灸人口、中外传颂的《岳阳楼记》。

Dengzhou Huazhou Shu Yuan

　　Huazhou Shu Yuan (an academy of classical learning), built by Fan Zhongyan, a celebrated statesman in the Song Dynasty, when he assumed the office of the Prefect of Dengzhou Prefecture with a view to cultivating more talents, was among the top five ancient classical learning academies in China. In the 6th year of Emperor Renzong’s Reign, i.e. in 1046, at the invitation of his bosom friend Teng Zijing, Fan Zhongyan wrote his eternal masterpiece Yueyang Lou Ji (On Yueyang Pavilion), which is widely acclaimed and extolled far and wide by posterities both at home and abroad.
